Meia Praia Beach

 

Lagos • 4 km long


Description:

The sand is especially fine and has many shells along the shoreline.It’s about 4 kms long with small dunes at the back and no rocks. There are several beach bars and it is ideally suited to practice several nautical sports (kitesurf, windsurf, sailing…). Even at the height of the summer,  this beach is not overcrowded.

Tip: the beach has several parking places and those are the parts where it gets crowded in the summer. If you walk around 5/10 minutes, you will have much more space.

Access:
1) Small ferry across the river from the main promenade;
2) Walk across the drawbridge near the Marina;
3) By bus;
3) By car.

Praia da Batata & Others

 

Lagos • Sheltered beaches


Description:
Praia da Batata is accessible from town, and leads to other small beaches linked by tunnels carved in the  rocks, such as Praia dos Estudantes, and Praia do Pinhão. These beaches are ideal for windy days as they are sheltered by their cliffs. A little bit further, there are other similar beaches such as Praia D. Ana and Praia do Camilo.

Access:
1) 10 minutes walk from the city;
2) By bus;
3) By car.

Porto de mós beach

 

Lagos • sheltered beach


Description:
Further west one finds Porto de Mós Beach which is about 3 km away from the centre of Lagos. It has gotten more popular crowded in the last years, but if you walk to the right side there is still plenty of space and the cliffs will provide shelter on windy days. The beach has also a big free car park and two restaurants.

Tip: before Porto-de-mós you can find a small beach called Canavial. The access is a little bit difficult, but it is worth it because there aren’t manny people and it is totally protected from the wind.

Praia da Luz

 

Praia da Luz Village


Description:
Praia da Luz used to be a fishing village until the tunas changed their migratory routes. The beach and the village itself has become very popular and consequently developed itself towards tourism. On the left side it has the iconic Rocha Negra (Black Rock) which is a volcanic stone that formed about 150 million years ago by active volcanoes in Monchique (about 20 km away). You can also find on the beach two water sports centres that offer scuba diving, boat trips, water sky, among other possibilities.

Tip: On the west side of the beach, after the rocks, you can find a small beach (Prainha) that is not so crowded. Try to go during low tide, since there is not much sand.
